Overnight should be paid for. The person whom you chooses could have a day job and just comes to assist the child at night. I've done that for a neighbor where I lived many years back and I was paid for the hours I slept over with the children. And have slept over with a toddler back in 2016-17 for my now ex employers when they were away on business.

Where do you live maybe I could be of an assistances? I am trustworthy, and have excellent references, if interested please e-mail marssmall@gmail.com or call 301-641-7759 I am not working at the moment and looking out for your child could be beneficial to both of us. I don't smoke and only drink wine on Sundays with my husband at dinner.

You will be better off hiring off care.com or sistersitty for occasional work.

It is only occasionally when I will have to travel for work. It’ll be outside school hours and most likely overnight. I will be switching jobs soon and I know I’ll have to travel because of it, few nights, but I don’t know the frequency or extent yet. I am preparing in anticipation hence my question.

I can definitely offer room and board. Salary I can offer, but not on a weekly basis. More like as needed.

I’m nee to the area so I’m unsure where to find a student that may willing to help out. Thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

You're not going to find a professional nanny, but as a lot of people said, you might find a student, or an older person. The problem is that if you need someone who can do school pickup and drop off, even just a few days a month, they can't commit to another job during those hours. There aren't many people who can (even fewer who ante to) truly live without income at all for any length of time, even if room and board are taken care of.

You're better off having a few people to call when you leave. I wouldn't take your job.

OP: If you're really just thinking about emergency-ish/backup care 1-3 days a month max, largely outside of normal school hours and for an 11 year old? I actually think you may be able to find a student who will happily do this job for just room and board. DEFINITELY you will be able to find someone for room + board + $15/hour actually worked. You'll just have to tell them when you need them a reasonable time in advance.

OP - this doesn't make sense. Are you trying to hire a nanny that helps you during a regular week or just when you need overnight time? If its just overnight when you travel, seek out some college kids that you can reference check and pay them for that time - they don't need to live with you all the time.

If you are looking for a nanny (child care when you are in town) plus travel care, then get a live in and pay that.

If someone can clarify...

What to do if Services are not utilized in 30 Days? Or does salary is whether or not services are used? Do “sleeping” hours count? IE in overnight situations?

Thanks!

Is this the op up above ?? If so you need to know what you can afford to pay someone every week. Your job and situation is unique but people don't work for free and you need someone to be available to you so you just pay them weekly weather they work or not. What can you afford each week to pay ?

Yes, a basic salary even if you don't use her services. If she is working overnight, then yes, she also gets paid.

Agree with PP. If you expect someone to work for you, you expect to pay them. I’m a live-in nanny, and I can guarantee that I don’t accept jobs without payment. It sounds like it will be a variable schedule, so figure out the base hours per month and go from there. There’s no overtime in most stars for live-in help, but overtime kicks in for Maryland at either 44 or 45 for the week, don’t remember which.

You're missing something here. The arrangement will include a room, food, basic amenities AND a salary !

Hello everyone!

I wanted to get some feedback in regards an idea I have.

I am a single mom of an 11 year old with zero family nearby. Relocated here about 1.5 years ago with my husband, but we are now separated and he's leaving the state. I will be moving into a new townhouse this summer (3 bedrooms/2 full baths/2 half) and I'm considering a live in nanny for the new school year (2018-2019).

I travel for work a few days a month, sometimes on the weekends as well, and would need someone to stay with my daughter while I'm away. Basically an adult outside school hours since she can't stay by herself overnight. Does anyone have experience with this? I do not require housework or anything else, just an adult. The arrangement will include a room, food, and basic amenities.

Any help or feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
K
