OP, why on earth would you need to “confront” her? That’s the only thing weird about this scenario. The diaper bag wasn’t fully stocked. It happens. She fixed the problem and got in with her day but you’re the one who can’t let it go and is turning into an issue. WTF? I also think it’s sad she needs to ask permission for every single purchase.

She was in the way to a class and she did this because it was likely the fastest way and saved them time from being late and also limited the amount of time your child spent either in sitting in their own poop or pant less in the winter. But you would rather have her text you for permission to use the card and then wait around while your child is either pant less or in a poopy diaper for you to ok it? If you don’t want your awesome nanny I’m sure plenty of other people do.

I think it’s odd she bought the pants with her own money instead of letting me know she forgot an extra pair and asking if she can use the nanny CC. That’s why she has the CC, for cases like this. It’s almost like she didn’t want me to know she forgot.

If I have a kid who crapped in their pants and I was desperate to find a clothing solution, I would use my own money to buy a pair of $2 pants before I'd text and wait for someone to let me know that it was ok to use the nanny CC. I find you weird, OP.

Well considering how your acting now, she probably thought you would freak out on her for forgetting extra clothes. Quick thinking on her part. I hope you told her it was “okay” and reimbursed her!

Yeah, the fact you're using the word 'confront' tells me your nanny wasn't comfortable telling you this. Why that is only you can know!

+1. I'm guessing she knows you well enough to know the permission to use the card would have come with an admonition to do a better job of checking the diaper bag.

It was worth $5 to her not to get the lecture.

Nanny made a mistake we have all made and paid for her mistake with her own money. No, I do not think her not telling you is odd. You should reimburse her for the cost of the pants.

You seem odd, honestly.

Are you naturally just very untrusting?

Well you’re acting so weird that she probably just wanted to avoid discussing it.

Not weird at all. Very smart on her part.

S**t happens, it was probably more time conducive to go to the store than to go back home. I think it was good thinking on her part. Besides, if she used her own money, what is it you have a problem with?

My nanny took my DD to Gymboree. On the way DD has a massive blow-out. Nanny forgot to check diaper bag for extra clothes and there were no pants. She changed DD and stopped by an Outlet Carter’s and bought DD a new pair of pants. Nanny never mentioned this to me and it was only confirmed after I noticed a new pair of pants and checked our nanny CC and saw there were no charges. When I confronted her she seemed pretty dismissive. I find this odd.
