I am making this comment to the last person who said she paid an IRA for her nanny. Wonderful for you and terrific for your nanny. I always worked with wonderful families and they paid my healthcare. However, when I start working for the family I am with now, I didn't need healthcare because I was on my husband's plan. But they were willing to if I didn't have already. Some people are just decent like that, and appreciate the people whom they hire to care for their children. Thank you for being the kind of person you are. A happy nanny, will go beyond the call of duty, this is something many employers don't understand. Or is too selfish to comprehend.

We included a set amount per pay period for either healthcare costs or retirement savings. Our nanny already had healthcare through her husband's job, so she chose retirement. She set up an IRA and we pay her an extra amount with each paycheck to go into that. I thought that was an incredibly generous benefit, but my husband was adamant about it because he is a big advocate of saving for retirement. However, we are moving and our nanny is having a hard time finding someone else who will pay what we pay her, including the healthcare/retirement piece, so I don't think it's very standard.

I was given healthcare by my employers after 1.5 years. And had healthcare as part of my initial package in my previous job ( a very wealthy couple with several household employees).

I don't know what is "standard" however.

A lot of people will give you a stipend, but it's more common to be added as a benefit in your second year.

For our most recent nanny, I offered full-coverage healthcare benefits because I wanted to know she'd go to the doctor if she was sick or injured. However, I had never offered it before.

On DCUM people will say all nannies receive full healthcare benefits, plus 4 weeks paid time off, and 30+ dollars/hr. While there are some nannies that do receive those kinds of benefits, most don't.

Some families give a stipend towards healthcare, some don't. If you want healthcare benefits, ask for them.

Do most full time nannies receive healthcare benefits? I receive 2 weeks paid vacation (both of my choosing), 5 sick days and 7 paid holidays.
