Subject: Former charge's birthday gift at a no gift party
Wtf? If the parents want to teach the kids that their birthdays are for celebrating life with loved ones and not to have their hands out when they probably have everything already, who are you to devalue that and go against their wishes? People are so concerned with spoiling kids and buying their affections they can’t see they are the one making the snowflake population so large.

OP here. I brought the gift and tucked it away before any guest saw it.
It was a dreadful event anyway. I lasted about 30 minutes but my former charge saw me and he will have a gift to open from me.

Bring it to the party or if you are working when ever is the closest date. I don't believe in no gifts.

I would bring the gift to the party.
No gift parties are the worst. I'm convinced people have them because they want their guests to feel stupid and uncomfortable. If you bring a gift you're a jerk, if you don't bring a gift you are a cheap jerk. The guest is screwed either way.

I am going to a former charge's birthday party today and it is a no gift party. I already got him his birthday gift - we talked about it the last time I saw him and he told me what he wanted. The other nannies and housekeeper also always buy the kids gifts but will see him on his actual birthday this week (and give him his gifts) when I won't.
Should I sneak the gift into the house today or just wait to give it to him the next time I see him?
