Always look up the family’s social media, LinkedIn, check if they’re a Megan’s law offender.

Everyone looks but be careful. If you look up my name you’ll find a similarly aged woman who lives near me who has been arrested numerous times. I delete all social media when job hunting anyway.

I looked up all my prospective employers on social media as well as in depth google. In this time of extreme political polarization, I needed to know that we were on the same side. One family was very active in the pro-gun community and supported trump so I eliminated them from the running - they were very surprised when I turned down their offer (of course I never told them why). Another prospective employer posted way too many pictures of her child and the child's grandmother on social media - and that definitely had an impact on my final decision but not a deal breaker.

The family I chose were very active in charity work and even honored for their charity work. I still ended up with one irritating grandmother, however. Seriously, it is the only drawback of the job I have had for two years.

LOL, I interviewed dozens of nannies and have never heard one mention such a "requirement". Far easier and more discreet for them to just look up our estimated house value on Zillow to get a sense of finances if they wanted. Or look us up on LinkedIn.

You can try, but if she is like me, you won't find out anything about her.

As a nanny, I absolutely check out prospective employers on social media. Just common sense now.

,nannies should also do the same for prospective employers as well as criminal and credit checks.

Teacher friend has a busy online presence under her nickname. She half maintains an FB account under the name she's known as for work.

Nannies could do the same. There's still validity in checking though.

Yes absolutely. We did a deep dive google search on each potential nanny we interviewed. One had a really personal blog she posted to frequently with some really questionable info.

Yes, I think it is worthwhile to do a google check. Why not? I know our prospective preschools did one on both DH and I because the interviewer mentioned something that we did (an award we won from a charity) that we did not include on our application). I think it is the way of the world now. We did a background check on our nanny two years ago as well as a social media check. We found out she was politically liberal (so are we) and loved books.

Just was wondering if parents check social media before hiring a nanny ? I? understand the background checks but does social media play a role as well?
