Nanny/parent relationships are often a little too close. I had a parent treat me like dirt after I quit because they felt “betrayed.” I left because my needs changed.

what??? really? any parents out there can confirm that they fired a nanny on the spot for fear of abuse? (assuming there was no abuse or suspicion of it prior?) seems nutty to me

I give whatever my contract states. Since my contracts are writte for mutual convenience, they frequently state a minimum of two weeks, but the possibility of indefinite notice while both employer and I seek a better fit. This allows both sides to at least be in final negotiations when the other party terminates.

If you can find a way to give 4 weeks I am sure that would be HUGELY appreciated.

Two weeks is understandable but it does mean an immediate "drop everything and do nothing but search" kind of reality for the parent(s).

4 weeks allows more time to find the right person (and then of course there is the question of how soon they can start) or to line up a short term fill-in from an agency.

I have a new position lined up that would like me to start in two weeks, but at the same time I don’t want to leave anyone in a bind.
