I expect my first raise to be at least $1, ideally more. By that time I should have proven my value. But I do not expect every raise to be so substantial and would be happy with other benefits in lieu of a raise later on.

If the person is employed long enough, you may have to stop these annual $1/yr raises. It's important to consider when hiring what your ceiling may be, how to communicate that to your nanny, and what else you can offer in lieu.

Yes, a raise is expected. Usually $1 an hour. On the anniversary of hire. Benefits - extra PTO or vacation - are also expected.

Yes, an annual raise is definitely expected at each anniversary. If not, I'd expect to be having a new job if there's no discussion about what's going on.
