Also this is an insane time of year. I don't know any parent right now who isn't sick, about to travel, rushing about doing holiday stuff etc.

I'd wait 'til early next year and bring it up again.

Perhaps she is one of those parents who have anxiety over someone besides themselves driving their child around.

Or maybe she ordered the car seat online and w/it being the Holidays, it may not arrive as soon as she expected it.

She said it was fine in the interview. She even said I could take her to the beach which is 20 minutes away.

I think she lied to you.

Why would someone lie about that? Maybe I will just tell her that I ordered a car seat myself because I need to make sure it will fit into my car? I can ask her to reimburse me later. I think she's just really busy with the start of a new job and being a single mom.

Please don't do that. As a parent it would be a huge boundary overstep if a new nanny presumed to order a car seat without asking. There is such a huge range of prices and functionality that I would want a say in which car seat my child rides around in.

If everything else is okay with the job and the MB, I would wait and see for a few more weeks. There is a period at the beginning of mutual trust building. It is possible she wants to make sure you have a good rapport with her child, get familiar with the neighborhood, etc. before driving anywhere with her kid.

Op here: I think this is solid advice. I do bring my child with me so they play together. I really don't get the feeling she's lying to me about this.

Nope. If that were the case she would say so up front.
OP is going to be in the house all day every day.

You are not getting a car seat.

You are not going to be allowed to drive the kid.

Buying a carseat would be a waste of money for you, unless you plan to keep it for future jobs.

You sound a bit naive, but good luck to you.

Ask her outright if she is goon to allow you to drive the child anywhere. Then make a decision.

No car seat is coming. Either go crazy or quit.

It looks more like a dog park but there's a dog park across the street so maybe it's a playground.

I also wanted to add there's absolutely nothing we can walk to. Being inside for 9 hours everyday is so boring. I'm going stir crazy.
