She's been with us for years, does so much for us, is one of the happiest and cheerful people I know, and my kids love her.

MB here...we are giving ours tonight and it will also be two weeks’ pay after taxes, in cash. This is our thirteenth year of employing a caregiver (fourth nanny) and our standard when she is doing a great job.

Not PP, but my husband asked me when we first hired a nanny if we were going to have to plan for a month's salary as bonus (common for domestic workers in his home country and we both work in high-bonus industries here). Not giving anything this high this year since this nanny has only been with us a few months, but I would certainly consider it for future years with excellent care. I don't know if a big bonus works better as an incentive than a raise, but it does line up better with how/when we are compensated.

I am curious to know who this richest couple in the country might be? Is it Mark Zuckerberg? Bill Gate? the trumps? Mariah Carry? kk and Kanye? hummm wonder how it's like to work for super rich people.

I do $500 cash. It's not a full week's salary. 1 week is pretty standard.

If she's expecting 2 weeks, then you need to decide how much her expectations matter to you. I don't have two weeks' salary plus money for a raise to give her, so she wouldn't be getting it from me.

First year with a nanny for bonus season and wondering what people typically do in DC. So far I've heard 1 week salary is pretty standard, BUT I have reason to believe her previous employer did 2 weeks. Personally, I think this is a bit much, but now is my nanny going to expect it?? I love our nanny and want her to be treated fairly, but I also wouldn't say she's done everything above and beyond. Bonuses in my field are discretionary and based on work performance, you never know how much you're getting until it's given. I kind of hate this nanny culture of expectations where all the nannies probably talk about what they're getting!
