Seriously, do NOT drop her from the group you need to see if this is a pattern of behavior and for the love of all that’s holy you guys need to intercept her and be kind to that child. Banning her is like locking that baby in the closet with the boogy man.

Tell the parents of the child! I am a nanny and I would have called already. Of course, drop this woman from any group. You are all guilty by association.

15 months is still a baby and this is bordering on abuse. People spanking are talking about older kids at least 2-3 years of age. Also looks like this was at the zoo and not a safety issue like running across the street. I would remove her from the group and report asap to employers.

PS If she's willing to do that in front of a group of caregivers, what's she willing to do behind closed doors?

It's NEVER ok to spank another person's child. I'm not sure it's even OK to spank your own child. I wouldn't worry about kicking her out of the group, but absolutely tell the parents. Might be better to keep her in the group so you can see if it's a pattern of behavior or a one off thing.

I used to get the hell best out of me. I am not a serial killer or a psychopath. I agree that hitting is bad and I have never spanked my children but I have given a SWAT on the bottom and they are none the worse for this.

She won’t be a nanny anymore, so staying in the group is a non-issue

Did the parents give her permission? I know a nanny who has been given permission. My first nanny job I was told to spank the triplets

I’m in a fairly large, local nanny group where we constantly plan outings and play dates. Usually I’m spending time with the same 6-8 nannies, but today we went to the zoo and there was a large 20ish group of nannies.

A nanny I’ve met 3-4 times was there with her 15-month-old charge. She was not pleased with his behavior and as he was running, throwing a fit, she spanked him fairly hard on the bottom/upper back.

Myself and a few other nannies saw this. Most of us were flabbergasted.

As a professional, we want to represent ourselves as so... hitting a child (whether you call it discipline or not) does not make us look good. It does not show professionalism. It shows a lack of education in child development and it shows a lack of patience.

Here is what I ask.

Our group is an organization, should we push to have this nanny removed? We’ve removed nannies for less serious offenses.

Secondly, should we contact her employers? I know not everyone will agree this is abuse but hopefully you all can agree a non-parent should never ever ever lay their hands on a child.
