Can you you get your mom or dad to call your employers and ask for you?

This might be something to discuss (and maybe introduce in the form of a contract) when you get a raise (or at the 1 year mark if no raise is forthcoming). If you don't get paid for holidays, you might not get vacation or sick time. These are all negotiable and can increase your compensation, even if no hourly rate increase is given. You can find sample contracts online to get an idea of what they typical cover.

How do people become adults and not know to discuss these things, to get contracts, to get guaranteed pay, etc.?

I only have a full time nanny so they DO get paid for holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas. But if I had someone who worked part time I wouldn't pay holidays.

No guarantees of anything if it is not spelled out - especially for part-time employees. My guess would be no - you will not get holiday pay.

You have to get guaranteed hours, OP.
