Holidays bonus and some pearl earrings. She mentioned she wanted to get some nice ones for herself so I’ll get ones I like but from Macy’s or somewhere she can return them to in case she doesnt like them.

I think everyone is talking about a gift AND a year end bonus.

For a gift, we are thinking about getting our nanny a Rumba (she really wants one)!! And her bonus.

+1 But in a really lovely frame.

Still really cheap!

Nanny here. I would by far rather have a cheap-but-meaningful gift and some cash to spend myself vs. an expensive gift that may not be my preference. Esp. if you can give it a little before the holidays when it would mean I can go shopping for my friends and family with a little extra room in my budget.

Money. The bread I make for all the teachers. And a silly ferris wheel of pens (inexpensive). The kids are old enough to make cards on their own this year, so they'll do that.

We are getting our nanny one of those fancy single serve coffee makers. When we were on vacation last month she mentioned how much she loved the one in the hotel room. And her year end bonus, of course.

I am a nanny and I loved that gift. I don't care about the price.

My previous employers saw that I was switching between prescription glasses and sunglasses every time I went outside so I was given a gift certificate - basically a free pass - to go to this one expensive optometrist and pick out any kind of new frames and Transition lenses I wanted. The most thoughtful (in the real meaning of the word - my employers thought about me) gift I ever received and the most expensive.

Nanny here and the most meaningful gift is something small, like a photo (not framed) in a card with a handwritten message of appreciation, or something made with the kids like cookies or a craft, or something symbolic (one family got me some small sewing implements since I was always patching up their kids’ stuff, or another got me gloves to wear when I play outside with their kids).

Of course we will be giving our nanny an end-of-the-year-bonus but would also like to give her a gift from DD. She is a fantastic nanny and has been with us for two years. Last year I gave her something she never wears... I think gift cards are too impersonal.
