A former employer was talking about getting a puppy and (in front of my charge and extended family) **told ** me I would love having a puppy around.

My response: "I sure will as long as you make sure I know how often each day the dog walker and dog trainer will be coming over!"

No puppy ever joined the family while I was there over the next 2+ years.

Depends. If the dog is a puppy and you expect nanny to train then you pay a lot more money. You pay $20/hr for nanny duties and $50/hr for training puppy. If dog is grown and you want dog walked, you pay extra for this service. Nannies are not pet sitters.

Have your employers actually told you that you will also be responsible for the puppies or is it just an assumption?

I would ask them what my specific duties include, then ask for more money based on what you will be doing.

I pay a high school kid $20/day to walk my dog, check water and play with him. Hell yes, you get more money for puppies. As noted up thread, puppies are more work than babies.

I will be home alone for those days. And I'm not one to leave the dogs in a crate knowing someone is home, I haven't specifically asked my role in this yet but I know it will be feeding, cleaning accidents, and walking.

OP, get your responsibilities outlined and talk to your employer. If you are home alone with the puppy, you will absolutely have more work.

I have been nannying for this family for less than a year, they are wonderful and the little boy is great. But now they want to add to puppies to the family, which means a lot more work. I only work with them 3 days a week, am I wrong to ask for a pay increase? How should I go about doing so if I should ask?
