We got the smallest Step2 kitchen, and set it up right next to the real kitchen. It has been one of the most played-with toys in the house. My 7-year-old still plays with it sometimes, and he's huge! Most of these do fall until the "toy" category, but:

--Duplos/Megablocks
--simple puzzles
--shape sorters
--button sorter
--'walker' that baby can push or do sit down activities
--small rocker
--sit on spinner toy
--shopping kits with play groceries (check for choking hazards)
--"ball crawl"

The best "activity" at this age is play with an engaging adult willing to talk, pretend, sing, dance with your child.

PLaydoh, fingerpaint, crayons and paper. sensory boxes if you like that idea, You can get under the bed storage boxes from Target and fill with dried beans or pasta, then put small toys, trucks , cars etc in there. That would be fun to pull out after nap time.

Our first child went to daycare from 5 months so we didn't worry about having a lot of specific activity stuff at home other than books and toys. Our second has been home with a nanny since 6 months and will likely be home with her until turning 3. We have tons of books and toys but we don't have other things like crafts, push toys for outside, etc. I'm thinking of purchasing a few things like a table top easel and maybe one of those plastic rocking toys for outside from little tykes now that he is turning 1. Our nanny is very active with him and they go to tons of activities during the week (boogie babies, story times, etc.) so what I'm looking for is things when they get home in the afternoon after nap time. We host a share and had a similar aged child in it but he will be leaving next week and we will be getting a 5 month old in January so I think they may find themselves inside a bit more often initially due to both the weather and the infants sleep schedule for the first 4-5 months.
