I imagine that the people who are paying immigrants illegally and in cash are probably on the embarrassingly cheap side of things. I fear that some of them might actually be paying less than the legal minimum wage.

You aren't likely to get great answers here OP - I think most of the people on here, despite all of the snark, are actually reasonably decent minded professionals (nannies and employers).

So someone who thinks it's fine to employ people illegally isn't likely to be on here all that much. They wouldn't survive the nastiness for long.

I could believe that 15:36 is giving you an honest answer (like it or not).

Is it true as PP said that you are paying under-the-table cash at $20/hour?

Actually the honest people are out today. I hope you get caught, too. Jeff has your IP address and should turn you in.

No less than $20 an hour or you will lose her the second she gets a job that pays $20 an hour.

No, I'm asking what is the going rate for a nanny with perhaps primary school experience who does not speak English.

What gets me is the nannies who claim they are "legal" because they do have green cards and then wait to be paid under the table. Could affect their getting citizenship if it were uncovered.

Why should the fact that someone is an immigrant influence their pay? If they are here legally, you pay them
The same competitive rate that you would pay a citizen. If they are not here legally, you don't hire them at all and report them.

Obviously illegal but you should still pay market rate, right? It's actually cheaper since you don't have to pay taxes. I can't believe anyone would pay $10 per hour or less - my teen babysitter makes that. Pay the $15-20 that the job requires, depending on the job related to location, tasks, hours, etc. Some DC jobs warrant $25/hour - still a good deal for you since you aren't paying taxes.

OP again - I'd really just like to know - are you paying $7 an hour, $10 an hour, $15 an hour, or some other amount. Maybe $50/day (like a home daycare would be for example) or $75/day.

Thanks for serious responses.

Okay - I need the real honest truth. If you have a Central American recent immigrant Spanish language only nanny to whom you pay cash.... What is the hourly/daily/weekly rate you are paying. Thanks!
