omg stop. $35-$45 is not accurate at all. $25/hr+ is.

If you need someone 24 hours, you are looking to spend 120,000 - 180,000 a year on childcare.

Adventure nannies or household staffing for agencies. We had a bad experience with white house nannies.

you will 3 people on shift to care for the twins for this to work out. One monday through friday daytime. One monday through friday nightime and a weekend person for both daytime and nightime but allow this person to nap whenever the twins nap so she won't burn out.

If you will be needing 24 hr care available then you need more than one person. Not just because it's tiring - but it's also unrealistic and you will have the guaranteed stress of finding last minute replacements when someone is sick, wants to take a day off, etc...

Hire two people, and have a third backup you know and trust also (like a regular great babysitter) so you have options when the perfect storm of job stress and nanny/caregiver unavailability hit at the same time.

Hire a terrific 50/hr a week nanny for the main/daytime hours. Hire a night nanny for the first few months. Then see where you are when the babies are 4 or 6 months old. A lot changes when the babies sleep through the night reliably so your needs may be fluid for the next couple of years.

Alternatively, you could hire live-in nanny/housekeeper who will be "on duty" in evenings, for emergency fill-in, household running, and weekend work. Then hire the 40-50hr/week nanny also. That would give you terrific and substantial coverage without burning out either caregiver. You would also have backup coverage when one of them is on vacation, etc...

Obviously this is expensive. But if you can afford it and can find the right people (which is also related to money, but not exclusively so) then it's the dream solution.

Twin nanny and NCS here. I think you need to start by figuring out exactly what you really want in terms of how the nanny fits into your lives. If you want a 24 hour nanny because you want to have coverage round the clock, but you and your husband fully expect to take shifts when you are able to be home, then a 24 hour weekday nanny might be a good fit, but you should still plan for her to have weekends off. If you actually want to have the nanny be the primary person in charge of the children at all times, especially if that includes weekends in your mind, then hiring one 24-hour nanny is likely going to lead to burnout sooner rather than later. If you really want to be able to have someone else fully in charge of the twins at all times so that you and your spouse are there only to spend time with them as convenient, and are not ever fully responsible for taking care of both of them, then you should either get two nannies to do 24 hour shifts on different days (such as Sun/Mon/Tues and Thurs/Fri/Sat and they alternate Wed), or get a day nanny and a night nanny.

In your position, I would probably hire a newborn care specialist to be a night nanny And hire someone with long-term twin nannying experience as the day nanny, and plan to eliminate the night nanny when the kids are sleep trained.

I am a full time twin nanny and the family had a night nanny until the babies consistently slept through the night. You can hire both to be available from day one. If you can afford the help, don't let anyone criticize you for using it! Congratulations, twins are the best!!!

You are looking at approx $25 an hour give or take a couple of $ each way.
Do you really need 24 hour care?

If you have the money I would hire a night nurse and a part time Nanny to come for a few hours during the day.
Once you go back to work you can look into FT care.
If you hire a 24 hour Nanny are you expecting her to work 5 days a week or are you going to hire 2 Nannies?

I’m expecting twins in January and am looking to hire a 24 hour nanny for their care. My husband and I both have demanding jobs and will need all the help we can get as we live far from any family. Where are some good agencies to find such a nanny and what are the estimated costs? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks
