You think that your nanny should spend her money to buy your kid s card and gift? Her paycheck is her money and you do not get to dictate how she spends her money.

You people gave me lots of great ideas, thank you!!The visa gift card sounds like the best option and chocolates. Its for her birthday!

This, or even a Visa gift card so she can do with it what she likes. I would not like a facial/spa day.

I agree the spa gift certificate can be a bad idea. I used to hate these places before and honestly I wouldn't have used the gift card because I felt so uncomfortable in this kind of place. Now is a different story and I'd love that kind of gift.

You can't go wrong with cash and let her get what she wants

If you know of specific interests, a magazine subscription is fine or a cooking class at Sur la Table or similar. It depends a lot on your budget and her interests.

I am a nanny and that was my least favorite gift ever. I felt obliged to spend my day off doing something I dislike (massages, facials).

Point being... make sure you know your nanny!

Depends on what she likes. You know her better than we do !

My favorite gift ever was a gift card to my favorite day spa.
