I agree with you, OP. My guess is that she is planning to offer you a ridiculously low amount - or even nothing - for your services.
You should make up your mind (don't do it!) before she offers you an amount, so it doesn't create unnecessary tension (her honking you'll do it, and then having to reevaluate). Just tell her you use the daytime hours to volunteer, run errands, etc. and you wouldn't be able to accomplish your tasks with a child at home.

I had a friend who worked in a daycare & that taught her that when she had kids, she would make sure that she could stay home w/them.
And she did!!
Op here: Let's not shame daycare. The mom is waiting for a daycare spot for her son. I personally feel daycare is better because they have more people around to watch the employees. Nannies could easily abuse children behind closed doors. There's no one around to hold them accountable for their actions.

If he's on the waiting list, and it would be temporary, she might be willing to pay something reasonable if it means she can keep her job. If you're at all interested, come up with a number that would work for you, and then ask her for the details.

Op here: sorry I meant to write he's on the waiting list at the same daycare she's employed by. I get the feeling she wants me to do it for a super low amount.

Since you're SAH, I'm assuming your child is not at the daycare? So she is asking you to take care of her kid in your home while caring for your own kid. I'm a stay at home mom and I am wondering how this would make sense for her? Wouldn't she be paying me the same rate she's making? Why can't she bring her son with her to work? The hours would be 7-5:30 pm Monday to Friday.
