Just adding to this, I'm curious about what families in nanny shares do regarding contributions to a nanny's health insurance costs? We currently have 50 hours guaranteed per week, $20/hour ($10/family) with the remaining 10 hours @1.5x rate. We pay over the table, so this is pre-tax. I am trying to understand what is a reasonable contribution and what other families in the area do. Thanks!

Depends on how many hours you need, how experienced the nanny is, and where you live. I would say for a fifty hour week, you are looking at $600, for your part.

This depends on a variety of factors (where you live, whether you legally pay your nanny, experience level of nanny). For us we pay $11/hour per family w/5 guaranteed overtime hours a week at 1.5x normal rate of pay (45 hours total). We also do a pre tax healthcare stipend per month (amounts to about $80). All this equates to about $2500-$2600 a month not including bonus at end of year (usually equivalent to one week's pay) and COLA/raise at year mark which we haven't hit yet. Unlike daycare, we will pay more as time goes on because of wage increases, not less. Nanny shares are significantly more expensive than most centers in our experience.

Trying to determine how much more expensive a nanny share will be compared to our other option of a downtown day care center. Would you share how much a nanny share cost you for one baby, for a year? (So if you started using the share at 4 months, how much did it cost from the time your baby was 4 months to 16 months)?
