Bull. Her salary increase should have been discussed and confirmed at yearly review with increase included in her next paycheck. No excuses.

If they can't afford a .50/hr, $5/day, $25/week, $1300/year raise, they cannot afford a nanny.

I understand your reasons for requesting a $0.50 raise.
They should have countered w/a $1.00 instead & let you know within a few days.

I would give them until this Wednesday to bring it up again.

I know that talking about money isn't fun, but they don't sound too much like they are making this a priority.

And if they still cannot give you an answer on Wednesday, I would ask them for a specific date in the near future when you will get an answer.

You sound like you are doing a GREAT job.
Hopefully this family can compensate you properly for all the hard work you do for them.

Good luck!

I think they should of offered it at the review. They know the typical protocol. There shouldn't be any need to check their finances.

I'd keep my eyes open for something better. Why waste your time with these people?

MB here. At my job there's a month of time between reviews and when raises show up in paychecks. I think you should give it at LEAST one pay period. Talk to the dad at the end of this week.

They should have given you a raise of $1.00/hr at your meeting. You should start your search now for a new job and next job, stop creating your own job creep.

I had my one year review with my nanny family last Wednesday. MB and DB kept commenting on how impressed they are with my care of the children as well as staying on top of cooking, cleaning, laundry, and errands, and they specifically mentioned several things I do above and beyond the duties listed in our contract, which I appreciated that they acknowledged. They did not mention anything they wanted me to work on or do differently.

I asked for a 50 cent per hour raise. DB said it was a reasonable request, and based on my performance I absolutely deserve it. MB said she needed to go over the finances before they can agree to the raise. I said of course, I understand.

That was last Wednesday. On Friday they paid me my normal amount (no raise) and said nothing about it. I told myself it hadn't quite been 48 hours, give her a chance to sort it out... But now it's Monday afternoon and still no answer.

How long is a reasonable amount of time to give them to consider my request? At what point do I ask for an update? I purposely asked for a small raise because I wanted it to be an easy thing to agree to. I know they are very well off and this would be a drop in the bucket for them. I work my butt off for them (which it sounds like they are aware of), and I am frustrated that they are making me wait so long (5 days now) for a response. Any advice is appreciated, thank you.
