I'd be fine flying coach IF I didn't have any responsibilities for the kid during the flight. It's rude as hell to expect your nanny to March your kid back and forth to see you and deal with the ensuing tantrums

Of course you would be compensated for the time on the flight regardless of whether or not you flew first/business class or coach. You should have a travel rate for travel days worked out in advance.

However, I cannot imagine my employers EVER having me ride in economy with their toddler while they sat in First Class. I am always with the family - I would be insulted if I were OP's nanny and that is a stinky way to start a vacation/trip.

They aren't going to let your kid in first class if you did not pay for it and they have a seat in coach.

That's really crummy. You cannot care for your child during a flight? Why bring the kid at all?

Nanny here and my MB/DB always book my seat next to theirs in First Class with a seat for the toddler. I can't imagine it any other way and honestly have never heard of a nanny and the toddler being asked to sit in the back.

Don't you want to be near your baby if there is turbulence or she gets upset or sick? Why would you treat an employee like that, OP?

No. We book our nanny economy if she is flying to meet us someplace but booked with us in business or first if she is flying with us. First, it is much more helpful to have her close to us and DD, and second, it would feel insulting to have to in the "back of the bus".
