Stop with the free babysitting.

Gifts flow down. Employees do not give gifts to employers. If you feel you must then keep it simple and inexpensive. No free babysitting!

I don't understand why a gift for the parents/whole family would be inappropriate. I have been a nanny for 4 years to a family, and to this day, the mother and myself exchange gifts for birthdays, holidays and special occasions. We even end up getting something for the other when we are on trips. I will say, being thoughtful and careful is wise, and judge each situation accordingly, but I wouldn't say it's straight up inappropriate.

I made Garden stones with the children’s hand prints in them with their names and ages. It was a fun activity and something their parents can keep forever (my mom still has mine). I also love the picture books I have done that every year!

Pp, I disagree. I provide a service, therefore it is my money, I have earned.

They are paying you. So it's like you are buying them something with their money. It's the same reason I rarely buy things for my charges.

You never give gifts to your employers in a domestic setting. "Gifts flow down".

Why is it inappropriate to give the parents gifts?

I would purchase a special book for each child with a handwritten message inside the cover.

And perhaps a "Thank You" card to your bosses for being so kind.
No gifts for the parents however.

No gifts for the parents - it is inappropriate. A card with a heartfelt message perhaps. But yes - get two meaningful gifts for the children - beautifully bound books with an inscription from you and maybe a framed picture of you with both kids.

A framed photo of you and the kids.

I'm leaving my nanny job in two weeks and would like to give the family a small gift. Should I get anything for the parents or just for the children (3yo and 7m)? Any suggestions on what to give to the parents?

Thanks!
