I Agree, no nanny will take less than $20 for a share. I have seen family pay anywhere from $20-$26 for a share. Depending on education and experience. We did a share two years ago in Rockville, MD. We paid the nanny $24. lol

I'm in a share now (children were 5 and 6 months when I started) and I get paid $25 an hour. First, it depends on what both families want. My families don't require much housekeeping work because they have cleaners. I know another nanny that makes $26 in her nanny share, 2 kids but she does laundry, dishes, take out the trash etc.
At $25 hour your nanny's gross is $1000 (40 hr week) per week. That's $500 per family (this does not include the monthly fee for payroll). Are you paying nanny taxes etc? You should be able to reach out to the payroll company you're thinking of going with and ask questions about fees. If there is over time, 1.5 * the hourly rate and then you divide by 2 (if each family has 1 child).
Not sure what area you are in but typically most shares make around $25 per hour ($25 being the minimum). Talk to the other family and see what their thoughts are on rate, responsibilities etc.

If you pay your nanny under $20 for a share, she will run. unless she doesn't have experience. We had a nanny share and we paid her $18, she stayed with us for 3 months. We wanted to pay the nanny $24 but the other family wanted to start at $18. Now we have a nanny for over a year and we pay her $22 when she started.

This is OP. I just find it all confusing, I just don't have a good sense of what the cost looks like. So $15-20 is before taxes, I guess is what you're saying?

You - as an employer - do not worry or think about the nanny's take home pay! How could you know her deductions without knowing her?
You also have to decide what education and experience you want in a nanny.

I've seen posts saying the going rate is like $15-20/hour, etc., BUT how does this translate with taxes? I'm bad at math. 
So are people saying the nanny's take home pay is $15, so the cost is actually more? Because you have to allow for taxes to get deducted and wind up with $15 still?
Can anyone tell me how much it is per week or per month, including taxes and other fees, so I have a sense of what the total monthly expense is for budgeting?
