You need to be paid OT to be in compliance with your taxes? What am I missing? How does being paid OT make anyone in compliance with taxes? OP, please don't make up a story like this - your family will know you are lying, and then they will wonder what else you lie about.

Just tell them the truth: you work more than 40 hours and deserve to be compensated under the law. And then expect to follow all laws, including having taxes withheld! Good luck!

If they are paying you off the books, they likely think they can skip the OT pay.

But it's really not fair to you.

Bring it up sooner rather than later or it will be a tougher topic to broach.

I strongly recommend following ALL laws - you don't get to pick and choose. Paying you legally also give you the benefit of unemployment, Social Security, etc.

Above is fine if you're a lap dog. You just say, "here is a record of the OT I have worked and here is the Federal law for paying it. This is the amount that I am owed.". Put down dates and start/leave time.
" You might as well plan on being fired on the spot because these cretins already know that you should have been paid OT and, in future, have a contract addressing OT!

"Could we have a review now that we've settled in a little bit? How do you feel like things are going?" Then let them say whatever. Then you bring up how much you love the kids and how great that your childcare philosophies match and say "I'm not sure if you were aware, but there's a law that says anyone working over 40 hours in a week is required to be paid time and a half. Here, I printed it out for you. I don't think we've been adhering to that law."

I am around four months to my new family. I don't know how to tell them that after 40 hours of work is overtime and its X1/2 without offending them or make them think I ask too much. Thank you all in advance. .
