Bump?

Any thoughts/comments on making the package more attractive in my previous comments?

OP here.

I never posted an hourly rate... I asked what it should be. I only mentioned that the daycares in the area are not $18/hr. I've been given rates of 1200-1600/month for home daycare and small centers on Palo Alto and Mountain View.

OP again:

The schedule is 8-4pm if that matters.

OP here.

I didn't think 3 sick days was light, we have 5 days in our positions so not really comfortable providing 15 as someone suggested. I think that is a bit ridiculous.

We both speak Spanish so English speaking is not a requirement.

-40 hrs with child, no preschool.
-All recognized holidays

Re: making a more attractive package:
We are both in academia (university) and can offer time off during winter/Christmas breaks, At least a week for New year's, 5 days off thanksgiving week, spring breaks, Easter a few days off. How would you structure this? I didn't put more than 2 weeks vacation because these are set periods, while vacation time the employee chooses.

We have full time daycare and preschool options for 1200-1600 in our neighborhood so I'm going to have to disagree with $18/hr for a home daycare.

We have some candidates with varying rates of experience, all native Spanish speakers. We start interviewing this weekend and want to be sure we have a base to start from, negotiations wise.

I live in that area. I assume you are offering full time hours. Nannies start around $20/hr for someone English speaking with references. Most of my friends with nannies pay around $22-$25 per hour and have nannies with more experience (10 years or so).

That seems every high. We were paying about $1600 a month for preschool and aftercare.

I don't know the area OP. I do think the sick leave is a little light. You could perhaps offer 13 personal days instead, w/ great flexibility on usage but the same amount of leave.

My hunch is that our $15/hr starting rate for a nanny is equivalent to $20/hr in your area, which means you probably need to be able to pay more to have a strong, experienced candidate pool. But you'll need a more local resource to get truly useful information.

Your package isn't great so I would say at least $25 an hour - possibly more.

You live in the Bay Area.

VERY very high cost of living area.

It is rare to find a Nanny in that part of the U.S. who will work below $20/HR.

What are the hours like? Doesn't the child go to pre-school? Depends if nanny is being paid to guarantee availability vs actually taking care of kid
