so instead of 40 hours, you'll be on/working for 110-120 hours? I'd say $1500-$1600 (if you are even willing to do it at all.)

Another nanny here. I get paid flat rate of $250 for two pre-teens for overnights so you should make at least $1,000 the overnight weeks in addition to getting paid for the "vacation" week since you would normally make that anyway.

If they say anything, say you aren't comfortable with the overnight.

As a single mom, I think this is a terrible plan. You need backup - you can't/shouldn't have to be with kids 24 hours a day for four days without any help. Does the 7 year old have school or camp?

As for the pay, it should be triple your pay at a minimum, but actually it should be 96 hours, of which 40 hours are your regular rate and 56 hours are time and a half.

If you are their full time nanny with a contract, then the week they are on vacation is family-choice vacation and you should get paid (unless you agreed to take that time off as unpaid yourself for whatever reason, e.g. you ran out of vacation days but want more).

I would ask for my regular pay when they are gone the week you're not working and 400 extra for the 4 over nights. If they say no I would then say no if I was prepared to be fired and ok with it.

What they should be doing is paying you for the week they go on vacation, then paying you for the overnights trip.

They should be paying you your standard hourly salary for all awake hours, then a reduced, but fair overnight rate.

A 7 month old? I'm sure you will be responsible for the monitor at night so no doubling your pay is not okay. They feel entitled for free childcare because they're going away instead of paying you the week they're gone? Use the week they're gone to apply for jobs then too bad when they get home they have no nanny for their trip!

Wowwwwww they sound awful! They need to pay you the week they're gone or else they can come home and find no nanny! As for the overnights, you need to be paid your hourly rate while they're awake and $150/night. So no doubling your pay won't cut it!

My nanny family is going on a parents-only trip and asked me to keep the kids in their home overnight. It will be a Saturday until a Wednesday, so 5 days and 4 nights. Never done an overnight before so I'm not she what to ask for in terms of compensation.

MB suggested double my normal weekly pay. My normal weekly pay is $600 for 40 hours (not in the D.C. Area, this is normal where I live) Does double that amount sound fair for 4 overnights? It's a 2 year old and a 7 month old, they both sleep through the night.

Also- this is just a temporary job that will last until the summer, so I'm not sure what to think about this: the entire family is going on vacation the week before I'm scheduled to do the overnights. They will be gone for the whole week so I'll be off. MB said that they wouldn't pay me for the week they're gone (even though I normally get paid when they decide they don't need me) because "since we'll be paying you double for the overnights, you won't be technically be losing any money if we don't pay you for the week we're all gone). Is this considered docking hours? It seems a little off to me. I feel I should be paid for the week they're gone as that's what we have always done, and I don't have enough notice to pick up a new gig for that week.
