No.

We used to live in Chapel Hill NC and had plenty of UNC students for $10-12/hr. This was last year. That being said, our favorite sitter charged $15-20, but she was worth it.

Sounds cheap to me. Everyone I ask is $20-$25

We pay $18 for two kids - 5 and 8 - and they are very self-sufficient.

Your commute is completely irrelevant.

My daughter charged $15/hr when she was 16 yrs old. She is now in college and charges $20/hr and she won't take more than three kids. You are not overcharging.

I am a full time nanny, but this is for a different family just for weekends or date nights. I'm fully qualified and I think 15 for two kids is a fair price. Especially since I will be having to drive 20 minutes each way to their home.

I once had a mom tell me $15 was ridiculous.
I should have ran. I left after 3 monthd.

I pay $10-12/hr for teenage babysitters, $13/hr for an adult/family friend, and $18/hr when it's our former nanny who is babysitting.

I definitely lean towards teenage sitters as a result but I wouldn't say that $15 - especially if you're a professional nanny, is outrageous.

It's normal. I expect anything between $15 and $25 when I ask a grown up to babysit. I would probably say no to anything over $20, but I still recognize it as a reasonable rate for this area.

The only people I know who babysit for less than $15/hr are young teens who live close by, or older teens whose mothers are friends and make them do it (or they like my kids because they know them).

I think that is fine. Same scenario happened with me and I just ignored them. I am not working on the cheap for anyone.

What is the norm for babysitting rates in the area? I have a mother wanting me to babysit her TWO kids and is appalled that I said it would be 15 dollars an hour. I figured 15 for two kids would be normal if not more on the affordable side, am I wrong?
