For two years! I know -- I can't quite get my head around that either! And 12 hour days on the weekend too! Maybe OP is too tired to really think this through, and that's why she's posted before.

OP, I think it's fine to ask. It sounds like for whatever reason, you've decided to end this gig in December, but you're also pretty much done with it. So, if you really don't care if you lose the job, and $50/wk would make it worthwhile to you to stay for a few more months, then go for it. As a number of other people have said, you should have asked for this raise a while ago.

No, I haven't posted this before. And I am prepared to leave early if I get a no.

My question - admittedly poorly written - was if a request and acceptance of a raise constitutes a promise to stay for a year. Especially if I am dealing with a business manager primarily.


You have posted this before on here. You need to talk to the business manager and parents.

Why? I think a raise should have been given after the first year so this is back-pay.

Yes, ask for your raise, OP. If for some reason the raise is denied you can use that as a reason why you are quitting.

I have been with my weekend employers for nearly two years. I have never asked for a raise nor have they offered. They are a very wealthy and high-profile couple and everything goes through a business manager (who cuts all of the employees checks - there are four nannies, two housekeepers, cook and gardener). I will need to put my request in writing to both my MB as well as a CC to their business manager. I plan to ask for my raise a few weeks prior to my 2 year anniversary (mid-July).

I only plan to be with this job until the end of the year. Working weekends as well as a full-time weekday nanny job is getting to be too much for me. My weekend employers have no idea that I will be leaving.

Here are is my question - is it worth even asking when I know I will be leaving in five months? Does asking for a raise have some promise of another year's commitment?

I work two days for them - 12 hours each day. So it would be $48 more (gross) each week if I am given the $2 an hour raise I am requesting.
