Just up her pay her new rate now. Why nickel and dime the woman who is going to care for your two children. You can cut back someplace else if this is a problem. Having two children is not just when she actually has full responsibility of two children - it is also the more than double laundry, clean up, diapers, etc.

Hi, MB here.

Our nanny has been taking care of our 2.5 year old son since he was 4 months old.

We just had a baby who is now 6 weeks old.

I work from home and am ready to start back part time.

To start, I'd only ask the nanny to watch the 6 week old for a couple hours a day (in addition to our 2.5 yo who isn't in school yet).

The nanny and I have already discussed her new hourly rate for when she's taking care of both kids full time.

However, I'm not sure what the best pay structure would be for this "in between" time. I mentioned it to her and she said just not to worry about it if it's just an hour here or there, but I don't want to feel like I'm taking advantage of her and I obviously want to pay her for the work she is doing.

Is it typical to just pay more per hour she watches the newborn? Or should I just add X more dollars per day so we're not using a time clock?

Just curious what others have done in the same situation.
