How is it easier? What a bizarre response.

OP, the risk of injuries from improperly used car seats is substantial. It's almost as bad as not using a car seat at all. It is time for her to go.

But when the straps are loose it's easier and faster for the nanny. Come on!

Not an installation issue; it's a usage issue and I would fire for this after like the third warning. Nanny here.

Wait - you mean the nanny didn't tighten the actual straps that go around the child like a seat belt?! FIRE HER (another nanny here). The very least any nanny can do is keep the child alive.

Quote poster: that was my read, but honestly even if it is an installation issue, I would fire at the amount of slack described.

Yes, perfect grounds for firing her.

She obviously doesn't put child safety on her priority list.

Yeah...after so many instances, I'd find someone else to take care of my kids. I'm sorry.

Fire . If she gets into an accident and your child is injured because of the car seat could you live with yourself knowing that you knew she just doesn't care enough to tighten it.

we have had on/off issues with our nanny and her ability to use the car seat correctly. We stopped letting her install it because she could not do it. However, we have had several episodes of severely twisted straps or loose straps.
Then today, we happened to arrive home at the same time and I went to get out the youngest (2 yo) and I could fit my entire arm under the straps it was so loose!
I immediately showed the nanny and told her this was unacceptable. She started to say some excuse about how difficult it was to tighten or loosen, but I was not having it.

next year, both kids will need drop offs and pick ups from half day school, etc. and I think I just cannot trust this nanny with car seats. I don't know (or care) whether its sheer laziness, weak muscles or pure stupidity but the damn straps are not done up correctly.

Grounds for firing? We have already been through talks, print outs, hand outs, etc. on this. It's now been 3.5 years.
