You'd shoot yourself over a broken leg?

This is the problem. Curable illnesses/injuries can be expensive to treat, but not reach the "catastrophic" level of cost.

It's a true tragedy that you would kill yourself rather than spend all of your money on health care.

I don't know what plans will cover next year, or what we'll be able to afford (we pay 100% of her $325 plan right now). She is only 26, but she has several pre-existing conditions. If the plans are too expensive, I will probably suggest to her that we buy her the cheapest plan out there for catastrophic coverage, and put the difference between that and a higher premium in a health savings account.

She'll be SOL if she has something in the $10K-$20K range with that plan, but I don't know what else to do if the premiums soar. 3x what she pays now is $1000/mo. That's out of our budget.

We are military; we get free government health care and love it. Everyone should be able to get it, IMO.

I agree and we are in the same boat. Our nanny is older and we will not be able to cover her anymore under the House TrumpCare plan.

I'm the MB who posted above. The $325 plan I pay for has $0 deductible, $40 primary care visits, and $80 specialist visits. We bought through the small business portion of.the exchange.

My dad had coverage with Obamacare at about $1000/month with $1000 deductible in 2016. For 2017 he renewed his plan only to fid out that he now has a $10K deductible... He claims at no point in time it was even highlighted to him. so yeah... worthless.

I did not read new plan yet carefully, and it doesn't mean that your coverage will go up 5 times from today. It only says that a STATE can allow to charge 5 times more for a 62 y.o. with preexisting condition than what they charge a 27 y.o. with no problems... So a 27 y.o., gets $200/month plan, and 62 y.o. gets $1000/month plan... seems fair. Today the 27 y.o. either does not pay into the pot, because can't afford $500 or so for the useless coverage.

Go to healthcare.gov - the plans are worthless. All HUGE deductibles BEFORE you can see a dr. !!!!

You are living in a dream world, PP. I actually feel sorry for you.

Yes, of course, I am very afraid of losing my health insurance. My employer will not continue to cover my health care insurance when the premiums triple because I had an eating disorder in high school and got treatment. That is considered a pre-existing condition.

No, it will be impossible for either an older nanny or a nanny with a pre-existing condition to get a cheaper or even affordable plan. You clearly have read Nothing about this new plan.

I have a great plan currently with Obamacare and it is the opposite of worthless.

Yes, I am worried too. I love being self-employed and not having my healthcare and dental insurance covered by my employer. Plus, although I am only 30, I have a pre-existing condition (celiac).

It is a terrible feeling to worry about this.

Nanny here. If TrumpCare passes in the Senate, I am going to lose my healthcare insurance. I am on the exchange of Obamacare currently - I self-pay - and very happy with my coverage. What happens to me when Obamacare is repealed and TrumpCare is passed? I am 60 years old, in excellent health, but the AARP is reporting that premiums for those over 55 will quadruple. I cannot afford over $2,000 a month and my premiums are going to be too high to even ask my employers to cover, even though I know both employers (I work two jobs) are very happy with my work and relationship with their children.

I am worried. Anyone else?
