I think the the families are taking advantage of you. That is really low for the experiences you have. What benefit do they offer?

OP here: they put my overtime to add up to $18. So for 45 hours I get $810 a week.

I'm a nanny, I get paid $18 for one child. I wouldn't even take $18 for two infants. That's crazy. Parents need to understand that if they want a nanny with experience and education, they need to come out of their pocket. If not just get a nanny with five years of experience. We go to school for this just to make less than $20. When you take good care of your nannies they stay with your family longer. No wonder they like you OP, they know it would have been hard to find a nanny with over 15 years of experience with a college degree.

OP do you at least get some true OT?

$18 for a nanny share is really low in DC. $18 for two kids same family is low-ish, but definitely not unheard of; $18 for a share? Literally unheard of.

To be honest OP, that is really low for a nanny share. We are in a nanny share. We pay our nanny $22 and she has eight years of experience.

Nannies take care of children. They are not maids, house maids, or gardners.

I live in upper NW and pay $18 for my two kids. We offer lots of other perks but that's not the point. I'd ask what she is required to do for that hourly rate. It may be far more work than you are currently doing/would want to do. If I paid that much I would expect FAR more from my nanny in terms of cleaning, cooking etc. the grass isn't always greener.

We pay $18 for two kids also OP. (Close in MoCo 'burbs)

Try not to let the grass always be so green elsewhere that it makes you miserable. Definitely look for another job if you like, but I know lots of parents who pay less than $18 also so if your job has other good things about it, is stable, you like the parents, etc... then maybe it's not so awful.

This forum can be misleading about what can actually readily be found in terms of hourly rates I think.

You should never have accepted that position!! Nothing you can do now but find another job.

Why did you accept it if you weren't happy with the pay? It's not like you were unaware of the hourly rate.

Wow, that is low for the area you work in. We pay our nanny $22, we only have one child. We are 15min from Logan circle. This family just lucked out.

So I have been working with this new family for 5 months and I only get paid $18 for two infants. I work in NW, DC by Logan circle. I think that is very low, considering that I have over sixteen years of experience. Not happy with my pay. Another nanny that I know from play dates, just found another position. She is now making $24 working 50 hours. She only has five years of experience. Plus her new family is paying her health insurance. I guess I'm disappointed because a lot of family want experienced nannies, but are not willing to pay. By the end of the year I will be looking for another position.
