Anyone recommend an insurance company to insure an au pair

It's costing me about $600/ year to add my au pair to my insurance for 2 not-very-expensive cars. She's 23 with 6 years of driving experience (1 year here with her previous family, 5 years in home country). USAA will count au pair's home country driving experience, but you might have to ask (they initially quoted me a rate based on the issue date of her US license, but the rate went way down when I told them she had a license in Colombia since 2011). They charge about the same rate for her that they charge for me.

I mentioned above, Allstate was $600 per year for a 26yr old with 7yrs driving experience.
Call another insurance agent... they just don't want to do the work. Call an insurance broker and tell them you are thinking of moving your car and home insurance and see how happy they will be to run a quote for you.

We just had a quote of about $2000/yr to add our future 23 year old Au Pair to our insurance using her existing Mexican license. There is a bit of a surcharge until she gets a local DC license, but nobody can tell us how much until she actually has that license. Needless to say we are in sticker shock, but have little choice since we will need her to drive.

We are with State Farm and added her to our 2010 Honda Accord. She had an international license when arriving but got her DL within the first 30 days. All we needed to provide was her SSN and her DL number, they asked if she has an violations and we said no. They asked how much she would be driving (daily less than 20 miles) and our rates were not changed a bit. I got everything in writing in an email. She leaves in a week but has cost us nothing insurance wise.
We are done after this year as we are moving close to family and don't need another AP

Yes they can, but some insurance companies won't, probably just to make more money. Au Pairs can provide a driver's license from their home country with an issuance date. They can have it translated. They can also get driving record in some cases. Yet some insurance companies refuse to consider their driving record. Our insurance Allstate does and our premium is half that.

Only metric insurance uses is age and years of experience, sometimes sex. I have never heard of the country mattering or what side of the road they drive on. Our aps have been between 21-24 and insurance was the same for all of them. We have an AP car and it costs us like 1300 a year.

What's your insurance company? Does your AP have a US DL? Our insurance quoted us an astronomical amount while AP still only had her international DL? But once she received her US DL, the cost went down significantly. Still, not $0.

It depends on your insurance. Mine takes into account the years of experience in the home country. If yours doesn't, consider switching to another carrier because it would would save you a lot of money. My 26yr old French AP with 7yrs driving experience cost us almost nothing to insure, app. $50 per month.

+1 just ask for a quote to add a new driver.

Also, our insurance went up $1,500. But we switched to geiko and cut our whole policy price in half.

Ask them both for their driver's license to run the numbers. I don't think the country of origin makes much of a difference, but number of years since they have a license does a lot.

I've called my car insurance company to see how much it would be to insure a younger Au Pair as to and older Au Pair and they could not tell me unless I had the exact information of the Au Pair. We are in the process of choosing an Au Pair but would like to determine if having an older Au Pair makes the care insurance less money or if an Au Pair is from a country that drive on the same side of the road... any advice wold be much appreciated.
