It is unprofessional for your nanny to be out running her own errands while she is caring for your infant unless you explicitly discussed it beforehand.

I have an 8 month old; our nanny has been watching him since he was 2 months. I'm fine with our nanny running errands with our baby (and before with our baby now little girl). I figure, that's exactly what I would doing, if I were home with him, and from a developmental standpoint, one could even make a case for being out and about (also from a sanity standpoint for the caregiver). Anyway, just ask her where she went and leave it at that. This is no big deal. If the no errands hill is one you are willing to die on, go ahead, but (a) she was doing you a favor working today, and (b) few nannies, i think, would put up with these perimeters so she may find another job.

It's also perfectly reasonable to ask she return home so you can nurse!

Did they go for a walk and stop for an errand or are they spending the day driving around running errands? The first is nbd, the second is a big deal for me.

OP I was a Nanny for years and I didnt tell the parents every time i went out. It is beautiful outside today, maybe they went for a long walk, maybe shes sitting on a park bench while your daughter naps in the fresh air.
Please try not to micromanage her time or you will lose her. I know its hard, I am a parent now and my 4yo daughter has a babysitter for 4 hours a day after pre-K. Her son and my daughter are friends so it helps but currently I don't know if they are at the sitter house, the park, or running an errand. It doesnt matter though because I I trust my sitter and I know my child is happy.

You are making a big deal out of nothing, OP. You'd best lose this attitude or you are going to lose a good nanny. Let it go.

She's in the care of your nanny whom you trust with your child, that's where she is. Do you ask your nanny to update you every time she takes your kid out of the house?

I'm all for my nanny doing errands while walking my kid. I consider it a 2-4-1. Particularly when she's working on an off day.

I'd ask how far away her daughter's school is and where she went with your daughter that they left the house at this time.

We do a nanny share with our 3.5 month old daughter and another 4 month old girl three days a week. Today is our off day but we hired her so I could get a few extra hours of work in today, so it's just our daughter with the nanny. In order for our nanny to work today, she told me she had to pick up her daughter from school. Although I would prefer for this not to happen, i was okay with her picking up her daughter and I knew about it in advance. She was to leave at 2 pm to go get her.
At 1245 I got off work for lunch- a few mins early (I usually only get an hour, I'm off until 2). I only brought my manual pump to work today so figured I would run home and pump and see my daughter. As a courtesy I texted the nanny "I'm heading home to pump." She responded saying that they had actually just left and that she hoped that was okay.
UGH. so she left at least an hour and a quarter before she said she was going to (maybe she had left earlier?) without asking whether it was okay. Not to mention the irony of that I'm paying her to run her own errands...
She's only been with us for three and a half weeks. Beyond this, I really like her! I am really bummed she would use such bad judgement.
Would you fire her?
