Doormats are not professionals. Please don't be a doormat, OP.

OP, why would you accept a job that doesn't pay you for all hours worked? Federal law mandates that back nurse are HOURLY employees and are paid time and one-half (1.5) for all time over 40 hours. There are no exceptions. You chose to let them screw you so you got what you deserve. I guess you enjoy being a door mat.

I am going to talk with her Monday about being compensated when time goes over a certain amount and also about the importance of communication. I'm glad she was okay. I was genuinely concerned for her.

Here is something few parents seem to think about when they want a nanny who is "flexible" about parents being late - YOUR CHILD IS WAITING FOR YOU, TOO. Stop being so self-centered and get home at the time you said you would be home!

Glad she is okay.

Did she also lose her phone?

Yes talk to her when the dust settles...

Monday sounds best.
And please don't let this go.
Or you will be creating an unfortunate precedent for later on.

OP - please update! What happened? Did you call? What did they say? Did they pay you?

You get paid 1.5 for all time over 40 hours. Why do you let them cheat you? It makes no difference why they are late, you get paid for your time. If you were ever 45 minutes late, for any reason, then they would have a fit.

It's outrageous to be that late without notifying you OP. Unless they were in a car accident or some equivalent emergency there is no excuse. And there is no excuse for not paying you for your time.

45 minutes is ridiculous assuming nothing is wrong.

Make sure they are okay and then a serious discussion about promptness is in order.

Forty minutes late w/out contacting you is unacceptable.

Text/call them to see if they are okay.
I hope they are.

Then when you have the chance, talk to them about possibly being compensated a bit more when they run over their end time or at the very least, contacting you to let you know.

You are well within your write to call / text! And position it that you're concerned. And if you're over your set amount of hours, ask to get paid. If not, then ask for more communication.

They have been 20 minutes late before. Should I call or text to make sure everything is okay? I am upset they are doing this because I get paid an agreed upon rate for a certain amount of hours. I never ask to be compensated when they are late. But 40 minutes is a bit ridiculous, especially without a phone call or text, no?
