I'm stepping in after several incompetent caregivers, so my charges are completely wild. They are quickly learning that I mean what I say and that they aren't going to manipulate me, but every bit of their trust and respect has to be earned, so it's a long road.

I have the opposite issue and it's very annoying. My charge only listens to me and never his parents. So whenever they are around he does whatever they keep saying "no" to but I only have to ask him once.

I've been having the hardest time deciding when to step in and reiterate what they are saying or to just ignore them all and mind my own business. It's so soul irking to witness the disrespect when I know my charges usually behave.

from me: no play dates with her friends, and no video games or tablet. From her parents: they only enforce punishment when they are pushed t their limit (which is not often).

Then she doesn't respect her parents, she knows how to manipulate them.

Look for a new job. Or ask for a sit down with the parents and the child and lay out the rules. The parents have to back you up 100%.

My charge is very difficult to work with she is the youngest of a very large family, and spoiled to say the least, and has trouble understanding the word "No." whenever she is told no she cries and pitches a fit, or she back talks me and tells me "well mom & dad said..." and I'd kindly respond with "well I said no because XYZ." and she'd get mad, roll her eyes and does whatever I said No to. When I've brought this to moms attention, she would say "well she knows better, I've told her you are an adult too, and she needs to listen." Well obviously that talk didn't work because it's a never ending cycle. Is there better solution to this or should I look for a new job?
