She was asking for advice so you can keep your job and her little Honest Abe would shut up about your weird smell. If you're so bent on being hurt when no offense was intended then why not just hand in your resignation today instead of trying to work with her to solve the "problem."

What on earth is this Old Person Smell? Non-fashionable perfume? Moth balls? Medication?

If it's perfume or moth ball smell, I think it's reasonable for a kid to say he's bothered by it. It's also reasonable to gently and apologetically bring this up to the nanny. A little kindness and communication goes a long way.

NP. I'm caucasian, paler than most, but I use cocoa butter frequently. It moisturizes better than traditional lotions without leaving a greasy feel. My sister and I grew up using it on burns and healing wounds (once it was completely covered in a scab) so that they wouldn't scar, and I continued using it as an adult due to reactions to just about everything else. Please explain how a comment about using cocoa butter is inherently racist.

I am white and the teacher was also white. I still hate the smell of cocoa butter amd notice it all the time so I can tell you that people of all races use all kinds of lotion.

well, what are you going to do about it? Try different soap, laundry products, no perfume, different hair products etc.

right because they only sell cocoa butter to people of color. I'm white and used it after a surgery to help with scarring.

Also if DS has told her then really there isn't much more you can do.

We found a nanny that is a great fit with our family, but 4 years old DS complains about the "smell" of the nanny. I smell that too, it is the old person smell, but I don't say anything. DS kept saying that he likes the nanny but not her smell in front of her and made her very uncomfortable. What can I do to make the situation more pleasant for DS and the nanny? They are alone in the afternoon and I cannot interfere even if I want to. I tried to talked to DS about not bringing up the smell issue, but I don't know how much can a 4 years old respect that. Suggestions? I don't think the nanny knows about her old person smell.
