I don't offer sick or paid vacation, but in exchange we offered a higher rate. She can make up hours though if she wants to. Federal holidays are paid and off, so are snow days.

How much do you value having consistent care for your children? She probably values a consistent paycheck just as much. Yes, I would. Yes, when I was a part time nanny I received those benefits.

20 hours a year.

I give my part time nanny 2 "weeks" vacation and 3 sick "days." She works 3 days a week, so her 2 weeks = 3 days. If she worked short hours 5 days a week, then each "day" would just be her regular schedule.

Your question should not be what is standard, because there are a lot of crappy MBs that offer crap part time jobs and they'll tell you you don't need to offer sick or vacation time. They're also on here looking to hire a new person every few months.

Your question should be how seriously do I want the person I hire to take this commitment. If you want someone dedicated to your family 5 days a week for at least the whole school year, I would expect that at some point she will get sick (likely from your kids) and she will need time off to rest and relax. Doesn't some paid time off sound appropriate for that level of commitment? Why should the fact that she's working 4 hour days vs. 8 mean she shouldn't be able to take some days off?

No to sick and paid vacation.

Yes, I do. I have a part-time job on weekends and I get both accrued sick and vacation time. I also have guaranteed hours so that when the family goes away, I am still paid.

It is harder to keep part-time nannies than full-time nannies, OP. Treat her well or end up losing her.

Yes. Especially if it's a 5-day-a-week job. Same number you would give to a full time person, just at the part time hours.

I plan to hire an after-school nanny for 20 hrs/week. I plan to pay her for vacation weeks that we are out of town (3 weeks per year), snow days, and federal holidays. Is it also standard to offer part-time nannies paid sick days and paid vacation (i.e. vacation time of her own choosing in addition to the 3 weeks per year that I choose)?
