I have always given a $1 raise every year. And we have added additional benefits like paid health insurance (first partial, now full) and additional leave.
We're hitting the ceiling of what we can afford now though so I'm worried about what to do. We'd love to keep our nanny with us for another 3 or 4 years but we can't maintain the level of raises if we do that.

We gave bonuses and covered health case in lieu of a raise, which really ended up being more than the nanny would get with at $1 raise.

It is all relative, each situation different and depends on how much your starting pay was, if they cover health care, etc. And if they had a new baby...

I raise my rates every two years at the beginning of the school year. And I forewarn the parents 8 months in advance that I am raising my rates.

I'm finishing my 3rd year with a family and have never gotten a raise and I have no desire to leave them.

OP here. I'm a nanny and I just started the 4th year. I got raise every year but they didn't mention anything this year so was wondering if I should bring it up.

You can offen get a better raise when you switch jobs. Too bad for the child if the parents could have afforded to pay better. Really sad and unfortunate.

Why are you asking op? Are you a nanny or employer? Just curious...
What I can say is that I am a nanny and after 2 years working without any raise, I'm ready to quit. Yes, I'm very patient - that is why I'm a nanny

One dollar an hour each year or another perk ( this year, in lieu of a raise we took over her health care insurance).
