I am so incredibly grateful for all of our childcare providers. Nanny, preschool teachers, babysitters. They are really amazing people with so much more patience than I have. They're also doing the incredibly important job of nurturing my young children, which quite literally shapes their brains for life.

for me, the nannies I had when my children were newborns or very young were those I truly grew to care about in a deep, almost familial way. I was so grateful to them for helping me navigate the challenging part of life and we were closer because of it. Nannies I had when my children were older I cared about, but more like a work colleague.

I wouldn't say I don't care as such but I don't really give her much thought. I like her enough I guess and maybe it's because ahe only work for me two or three afternoons a week. But yes, I wouldn't say I feel care as such. She is just someone who helps me with my kids here and there.

Of course I do.

That's a no-brainer of a question for us.

Ditto 14:14 and 16:20. It took me years to find them. They truly are my family.

I am fortunate enough to have employers that genuinely care about me. They have stood by me through one hell of a year, and habe demonstrated over and over again that we are a team in which the health and well being of every member of the team matter. I've always had high standards for the families I worked with, and sometimes wondered if I expected too much. But now I know decent families like this do exist, and if you don't have one, you don't have to settle for the ones who treat you like a replaceable cog in the wheel.

They did. They also gave me a place to live for free that allowed me to receive the care I required without as much driving. They also introduced me to the people who gave me my next job, as I'm unable to nanny now. They did everything I'd have done for a friend or relative, and my husband and I see them regularly.

For the poster who said she loves her child's nanny, I wish I worked for you. I don't think my boss likes me all that much and that DB isn't too keen either.
I don't think I could have someone in my home and child's life who I didn't like or care for. That is if I was an MB which I am not.

If by "caring"you are referring to small gratuity or praises here and there then I am afraid those are incentives for keeping a nanny happy in order for her to keep giving herself to her job. Whereas a nanny strives to see her charge grow happy, healthy and safe, the same can not be expected from an employer. So in the end the "genuine caring" is done by nannies.

I genuinely care about all of the people in my life. But I would say that my concern for my nanny is more on the level of my patients, friends, or work colleagues. Not at the level of my parents or my children.
I like her, and I don't want anything bad to happen in her life. I would go far out of my way to help her, but I wouldn't die for her.
Now, caring about her is not the same as wanting her to continue being my employee. There are certain expectations that I need to have met if I am going to continue to employ her. She is an adult, and I don't feel like it is my job to support her financially if she cannot keep up with the demands of her job or I no longer need her services for some reason.
