- a big bouquet of flowers and an extra day off when you return.

I do $1500 a week for a full M-F 24 hours a day with a child for families I already know. Sure the hours seem like a lot, but I enjoy it.

I charge my normal rate from 7am-7pm, then 50% after that. Normal rate os more than double minimum wage though, so I might not do thatbif I were closer to minimum.

That seems like a fair daily rate.

This is what we do. We bring her back a gift from our trip. But not an extra day off. We usually forgive time she took for partial leave days (she saves up her leave for 2 to 3 week trip after Christmas to go back home).

I really don't sleep well when I'm on-call,
so I definitely am paid for that.

Is she watching her at your house or her house?

I totally agree w/the PP who suggested not trying to get a bulk discount for the extra hours.

Other professions do not pay their employees less for add'l hours worked, so why should a Nanny take a pay cut for extra hours?

(Not addressing you OP!)

OP:
I think you should compensate her her regular hourly salary for awake hours, then about $80-100 for sleeping hours.

However if your child does not sleep all night uninterrupted, it would only be fair to pay her hourly for overnights as well.

Hope this helps.

This. Overtime is paid at time-and-a-half. Have her track your child's sleep to be sure she gets paid fully for all the waking hours. Round up on these when possible.

Unless your child is up repeatedly at night, in which case there's no amount that can come close to compensating her

We pay our sitter $125 per night to stay at our house. I'd pay her regular salary then add $125 a night. I don't think it is fair to try to get a "bulk discount" on a personal service. Don't skimp in her rate.

Our nanny is paid considerably more ($27 an hour) and her travel day rate (which includes any sleepover/stay over) is $400 a day.

We pay our nanny 704/week for 9hrs a day m-f. She agreed to watch our 1.5yr old daughter while the family goes on vacation for 9 days but now we are trying to figure out appropriate compensation. What would you pay and/or think is fair compensation for that duration of time?
