Thanks everyone. This is very helpful for me as we have only had one nanny so far! Now for breaking the news to our 4-year old that her favorite person in the world is leaving us soon.

I've only overlapped once and it was for one day. Either way is ok, but honestly there will be little quirks about you or the kids the old nanny will want to relay to the new nanny (or new nanny will want to ask) to help her assimilate quicker and easier. For example some moms want texts and pictures throughout the day and others want none. That's good info. Some moms want laundry a certain way or are extremely picky about this but not that or whatever. These are little things that can make a difference for all of you that she might take a while and some awkward conversations to learn on her own.

IME, the benefit of overlap is seeing old nanny interact positively and comfortably with new nanny so they know that they don't need to dislike new nanny out of loyalty to old nanny.

I can't even imagine not allowing your children a few days of transition time, but you should know your children best.

I'd have them overlap for one day. The old nanny can give tips and tricks (DD likes when you high five her and then hand over a snack and turn on the radio when she gets in the car - she's ready to talk about five minutes later) (MB keeps a shoes off household).

Plus Old Nanny can point to New and tell the kids to behave well for her.

Hi, our current nanny is going back to school in the new year after having been with us for 4 years. We were planning to have the new nanny start the Monday after our current nanny leaves. Are there any pros/cons to having them not work together for a transition? I thought it might be awkward and confusing for our children to have them both here at the same time, but I'm second guessing the benefits of a transition.
