I always got one weeks pay as my end of year bonus.

Nanny here and I've had several families who spent that equivalent amount on a gift but never had one who gave it as a bonus.

Sounds very good in your situation. Nanny here and I wouldn't expect more for such a short time in your employ.

We give a week pretax for a holiday bonus plus personal gifts. She loves to buy gifts for everyone so I like to reciprocate with several wrapped gifts plus the bonus. Once you start giving a bonus, I know that employees really hope to get at least that amount every year so don't start it if you can't keep it up.

Whoa! This is for end of EMPLOYMENT bonus. Standard end-of-year bonus is one week's pay (though some who can afford it do more).

I give $500. It's what we can do along with yearly bonuses, healthcare, other gifts.

OP: OK, that makes me feel better then. Yes, by Christmas she will have been with us 3 months.

If your nanny has only been with you for four months come the end of the year, then what you're proposing is VERY generous.

A week's salary as bonus is for someone who has been there all year. Our nanny has been with us 4.5 years so will get a month's salary as a bonus, plus some things we know are liked.

OP: She will also be getting a lot of paid time off around the holidays too. I always pay her 8 hours for random days off we have.

First time employer and nanny has been with us for almost 2 months. How much do you give for end of year bonus? I'd like to give 1 week pay (pre-tax), but not sure I can swing it. I am thinking $300-500 cash and some baked goods, Starbucks cards, and photo of my little one who she loves. Does that seem fair? Do nannies expect 1 week full pay as a bonus? Is OK to give a little less since she's only been with us a few months? I want her to feel appreciated, but money is tight.
