Where is minimum wage $7.25 an hour at?!??

That is the federal minimum wage and the minimum wage in Virginia.

We pay $15 an hour to pick up two kids from aftercare. Most days they usually go straight home or to a nearby park to play until we get home. She takes them to a once weekly activity (the same activity for both kids). She works about 12 hours a week if that helps.

We pay $20 per hour for one child (30 hrs/wk) in NW DC... but we really really wanted the nanny, and wanted her to accept our job offer.

High school kids get that, so no.

So let me get this right, no one wants to advise OP, they just tell her to ask the nanny prospect. But, when someone suggests an amount they say no. Got it!

OP - I also think $15/hr is reasonable. That's what we pay our PT nanny who drives our twins. We also give paid time off, paid federal holidays, paid snow days when government shuts down and a nice Christmas and birthday bonus. She's been with us for 2 years.

I'm trying to figure out the going rate. I know what she wants me to pay.

There's no going rate. Does your field have a going rate? What is it?

Perhaps you mean an average, but there is NO "going rate" here.

What is she asking? What's her background? Is *she* the one you want?

Think about it.

Can you afford what she is asking? Don't try to low ball her. She might decide to work somewhere else.

I should add it's 2 kids - 1st and 3rd grade girls - and they go to the same activities.

How much should I pay someone to pick my kids up from school and take them to activities and pack lunches for the next day? What would be the hourly rate? She'd work 12 - 12.5 hours a week.
