Care.com. Not many agencies in my area. Craigslist looks terrible, I check it occasionally now that I am looking for a position. But I only look at positions that are in the $20-25 range.

While I am glad some people have found success on Craigslist, with me it has been the complete opposite.

The families in my area have been flaky & scatterbrained.
Since they didn't invest a penny toward finding a Nanny, I am guessing that it means they don't care if they change their minds later on.
Or maybe they are not sure if they even want to hire a Nanny, so they are just interviewing people to see what is out there.

Families that actually take the time and effort to invest in their Nanny search are usually more serious-minded about selecting a Nanny and are less flaky.

I prefer to find parents on childcare websites vs. CL.

Craigslist. I have been with them for 3.5 years now. The other family I actually found here.

On DCUM.

It was 4 years ago but they are still happy with me. I wrote an ad, I was contacted, had an interview and was hired.

Sometimes it's easy.

Honestly? Try Craigslist. It isn't filled with creeps like you may think. Run background check before hiring of course, but you should do that anyways. I'm an English speaking nanny and have found my last three awesome families on Craigslist. I've never found a job on this site, but then again I've never attempted to either.

A few years back, I used Care.com and Sittercity.com.

I met some nice families that way & since then I have found jobs by word of mouth through these families + more.

Care.com- I've never found a position here as most parents want Spanish speaking nannies and I only speak English.

I was referred by a family I do date night for. He heard from a neighbor that another neighbor was looking for someone and not having any luck. This family uses me three days a week and I work for the moms friend one day a week. I just started with another family one day a week and they responded to an ad I placed on Craigslist. That mom had mentioned that she finds good candidates by responded to their ads but if she were to place an ad with a job then all the crazies would come out.

In a nutshell, word of mouth, Craigslist and neighborhoo list serves tend to be best for me. Mostly word of mouth.

Just wondering how the nannies on this site got their positions? I'm looking for a nanny who speaks perfect English (among other important qualities) and I haven't found any. Most who post here seem very articulate. Not trying to offend anyone, that's just our preference.
