I feel horrible firing her. She doesn't put them in danger and she does most things in the end, she's just disappointing.
And I have to get up at 4:30 some days to do some things I thought she would do, that is irritating.

We pay $25/h gross. 10 days vacation. 5 days sick. $40/week gas.

Great ref. But, I think her former MB wanted someone to keep the kids alive before they went to a $35k/yr school, not really help them develop.
Our other nanny was a true professional. Maybe I was just lucky last time.

Our contract states we don't have to pay any severance if we let her go within the first 6 months, likewise she can just leave us.
I don't want to fire her because I feel bad.

The better question is why are you keeping her?

Why don't you talk to her and express your feelings? Why guess Or ask here? Ask your nanny.

Ive had a feeling our nanny is going to quit for a month or more, but she still hasn't.

She's been with us since June and has never seemed to warm to us or our two boys aged 2 and 4.
She also doesn't seem to care that she under performs in her job.

She doesn't willingly do most of her job description tasks (cook for kids, do their laundry, keep their toys in order) and only does these if I keep asking. I'm not sure what she does for the 8 hours a week both kids are at school and while the little one naps when his brother is at school.
If she's not happy I wish she would quit.

Can she think she's doing okay, or is she going to quit?

She is paid well and has vacation and sick time. We are never late home and have been accomodating of her requests for a day off here and there. I don't think we're bad employers. Our previous nanny was like one of the family, but decided to go back to school, so left us.
