Your $20/hr would be about average.

Do these people not understand American taxes?

Does anyone? Very complicated for some, especially nannies not from the United States.

May be complicated for some employers, but what's complicated for the nanny? Nothing.

That's 47.5 hours per week, unless one day is shorter.

Just hired at $20/HR (gross) in NW DC for one infant. There are excellent nannies out there at the rate we were offering. I imagine for another child you'd want to go up a little. Good luck!

That would be a "low-end" sitter.

That's about $20-$21/hr for a 40-hour week, taking into account employer taxes. Not a low-end sitter.

You have to pay overtime of 1.5x rate for the 5 hours of overtime, and figure another 10% additional for taxes, unemployment insurance, workman's comp, christmas bonus/gifts, etc.

2 children, Arlington, base rate $18-$22/hr depending on what you're looking for.

We are considering switching to a nanny from daycare. We have a seven month old and a two year old; we would need care from 8-5:30 (45 hours/week). Just trying to figure out what the range/going rate would be since we have only ever done daycare. We live in Arlington. Any input would be much appreciated!
