Your first day was Thursday. You should get paid for hat day and Friday since you were available but didn't work. You don't get paid for Labor Day before you even start the job, wtf. Your start date was Thursday since you weren't available tues and wed, dingaling.

I think you have it backwards. The nanny would be smirking and thinking she'd been hired by a dumbass if they complied. Op's employers are probably turned off by this and looking for a replacement already.

Don't you earn pro rate vacation days, i.e. 1 day for every 4 weeks worked? Or get access to your vacations days once you work 6 mos?

Op you have got to be kidding me. Lol. I am a nanny and I find this very greedy and entitled. I wouldn't even be comfortable fixing my lips asking for a full weeks pay from a brand new job when I could only perform 2 days out of 5. Never mind your scheduled start date. And besides that any professional nanny knows that guaranteed pay is only honored when they family doesn't need you and they cancel a day. If you don't work due to personal reasons that is when PTO, sick days, vacation come into play.

How would you feel if the MB told you that since you weren't able to come on Tuesday and Wednesday they would use your PTO for those days? Despite you not being scheduled to work until next week? But because you showed up Thursday they are counting this week and using your vacation time for the days you said no? Would that be fair? Your contract isnt signed, you didn't put in a full week due to YOUR previous commitments so really you should look at the days you did actually work as babysitting or trial days. The nerve lol

I am a very generous employer with $$ - she was asking for babysitting help this week and not nannying - next week is when the real work starts and you should get paid for vacation days etc

OP here. I am the communication thread person. The other offer fell through so I decided to give them a chance. I tried to sign the contract Thursday but the mom said she didn't want to sign it without her husband there to sign as well.

I wouldn't expect to be paid for Labor Day since you technically weren't working for them as of yet.

I would just accept Thursday's pay & not make a huge fuss over Friday's cancellation.

You don't want to come off as greedy.

And make sure to sign that darn contract on Monday!

I don't think you should have been paid for Labor Day. You worked ONE day this week. You haven't signed a contract, thus the contract is not in effect. You should get paid for the one day you worked.

OP here. You're misreading. They didn't have to " patch any childcare together". The mom is on maternity leave. She returns Sep. 19th but my start is next week for a transition week. The dad unexpectedly got sent on a business trip, and the mom asked if I could start a week earlier so she can have some help. I had already made vacations plans because the start date was Sep. 12 so I told her I wouldn't be back from vacation until Wednesday. She was fine with that since it was a last minute request and my start date wasn't for another week.

I started with a new family this week. My original start date was next week but they wanted me to start this week due to the dad traveling. I told them I couldn't work Tuesday and Wednesday since I would be out of town. I worked Thursday and then the mom said she didn't need me today. We have contract with guaranteed hours and paid holidays ( Labor Day is one). The mom only paid me for the hours I worked on Thursday, and when I asked weekly pay, she said " We didn't sign the contact yet" with a smile/smirk. I told her I understood not paying me for Tues. & Wed., but I should be paid for Labor Day and today since she canceled. She refused but texted later how good the day went and how they're looking forward to seeing me Monday.

I've had some concerns with communication but wanted to see how the position went. For one, I tried two times to meet to sign the contract, and both times they didn't email back for a week. I tried signing yesterday but the mom used having the dad there as an excuse to wait next week. I don't know if I'm right for thinking I deserve that pay. I'm contemplating in quitting if I can line up another job.
