I have a standard contract that I've used with the past two families and they both were okay with it, we changed a few things around but it covers everything. I can email it to you and you tailor it to your job

Im a nanny in the UK (though currently Im doing temp work in Spain).

Its really important to talk about hours, pay, holidays (how many, who chooses), what happens if the family take extra holiday, insurance for the car and how you will handle sick days. Include notice periods and trail periods. Im especially firm now with extra hours, last week I worked over 20 extra hours and instead of being cross this week I will be well paid. If you are live in its important to talk about guests, and think about your notice in terms of your living situation (they give two weeks - you have only two weeks to figure out where to move to.

My first few jobs I forgot to think about overtime/ extra hours and feel like I was burned - now I am very very firm about this going in the contract!

Nanny here. I'm extremely comprehensive with mine. We put in hours, pay, OT pay, guaranteed hours, vacation, sick days, and duties. I also put in notices, severance, and make sure to add in a confidentiality clause for both parties. It's mainly to protect my tax documents.

The A to Z contract is awesome and so worth the money....

I think it's good to err on the side of too much info in a contract, that way it's a start to the discussion and you can always amend it while you're negotiating/figuring it out. Or even revisit later if it's not working. Much easier than realizing you forgot something and springing new requirements on your nanny.

We are happy with our contract, over four years later. We put in that we could ask for a certain number of errands to be done that may not necessarily be child-related. I am really glad we did that.

Search the archive. I've posted a link to a sample contract at least 5 times this year.

Make sure you are clear on sick and vacation leave. This is an issue EVERY TIME I hire a nanny.

Nannies and parents who HAVE contracts....what is important to put into a contract? Do you wish you would have put something in it and didn't? I'm working on mine with the family and wanted to get ideas or anything important I might my be thinking of!
