Why did you take this job? Not being snarky in genuinely curious.

I'd need a background check on both of the parents.

If you're in the DC area, maybe folks who have an English basement w/ a separate entrance, bathroom and kitchen would be OK w/ this arrangement (i.e., close to a private apartment) with the understanding that your SO isn't allowed in the rest of their house (and I assume they'd want a full background check/references on him too).

Unless you plan on being completely celibate with your SO, having sex is going to be so awkward. It'll be pretty much like sneaking a guy/girl back to your room when your parents are sleeping next door, every day. So, unless there's a separate apartment I wouldn't even consider it.

Exactly. Separate everything for sure. It's bad enough when just the nanny agrees to live-in.

I have a live-in nanny. I think I am pretty flexible- we allow her to have friends over at will, although she usually tells us as a common courtesy- she can have guests stay for up to a week- longer if we have a discussion about it.
I would never ever allow what you are suggesting.

Nobody would do this unless they have a separate apartment unit.

As a live in nanny I'm not aloud to have guests over. I also use their car for work and personal use so I'm not aloud to go anywhere without their permission. I find this difficult to make friends. My employers are very strict though and worry about safety.

Your SO should be paying rent, utilities and own expenses. I would never agree to that. Its extra costs involved and more drama. It would be very uncomfortable in less you had a separate apartment

It depends on the family and the living arrangements, but if we had an en suite (bathroom + living and bedroom) to offer, I would consider it. I would insist on a background check of your SO, though, at the same time as I did your background check, and we would have to talk about groceries, utilities, and use of any common space in a very different way than we would if you were single.

No. I mean, the majority of people have a significant other.

Most prefer the nanny only.

Some even go so far as to ban overnight guests.

I've been a full time nanny for several years but always a live-out. I'm wondering if it would be possible to be a live-in nanny if you live with your significant other. Are many families comfortable with this, or will most want someone single?
